Angry parents have hit back at the council's decision to scrap their school bus service.

Newton Mearns mum Rhonda White said: "We have received no notification of this decision to terminate the service.

"If indeed East Renfrewshire Council is heavily subsidising the service in addition to the large sums already paid for it by parents, then we suggest the Council needs to employ more competent negotiators with the bus companies.

"Walking to school is a noble idea, but totally impractical when it comes to small children. And Newton Mearns’ particularly inclement weather for most of the school year must be considered."
