Never mind your freebies, what about our buses!
Friday March 05, 2010
Sort your buses out before going on expensive foreign trips! That's the demand of Giffnock & Thornliebank councillor Gordon Wallace, who wants SPT to tackle their deteriorating transport links in his area.
The withdrawal of the 29 service has been inadequately replaced by the irregular 375 service.
And Cllr Wallace wants First Bus’s No 38 to be extended to incorporate Spiersbridge, Thornliebank Main Street and Orchard Park Avenue.
Gordon said: “Shortly after sending my letter the SPT expense scandal broke. People in Thornliebank are angry enough at being increasingly isolated as a result of vanishing public transport.
"To find out that SPT bigwigs are lavishing themselves with public money at the same time as cutting back on bus services just rubs salt into the wound.
“East Renfrewshire Council contributes £1.8 million to SPT's coffers each year. I can only hope SPT's response to my letter shows it’s re-focussing its efforts on investing this money on our transport links rather than on ridiculous mileage claims and spurious overseas junkets.
"If, up until now, SPT has found itself able to jet its directors and executives off to China, India, Italy and the USA it can surely afford to put on a few buses to Thornliebank once every so often."
