Thieves operating in Newton Mearns
Monday February 22, 2010
POLICE are urging members of the public to keep their homes, cars and other valuable property secure following a recent spate of thefts in the Newton Mearns area. Several houses have been broken into with car keys and other valuables taken with the intention of stealing the car. There have also been some instances where the thieves have been trying doors looking for one that is unlocked.
Householders are advised to keep all doors and windows locked, including patio and conservatory doors and windows when rooms are left unattended. It is especially important to get into the routine of checking all doors and windows before going to bed at night.
Leaving car keys and valuables on open view near doors and windows is also to be avoided.
Car thieves immediately look for keys in the downstairs hallway and kitchen so take care where you leave them.
Taking a few seconds to follow simple safety precautions can often save a substantial loss.
Please be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police on 0141 532 5700 or in case of emergency dial 999.
Information can be passed in confidence to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
